Anyone who travels to the Yucatan Peninsula as a diver usually does so for a specific reason.
It’s because of the hundreds of kilometers of beautiful underground spring passages and countless warm water cenotes found here.
Mexico is a pilgrimage site for all the cavern and cave divers in the world
The area is famous for:
- White caves
- Amber colored caves
- Deep and as well shallow caves
- Dives with simple or complex navigation
- Massive haloclines
The longest flooded cave system is called Ox-Bel-Ha (meaning 3 Ways of Water). It has a total length of 269 kilometers and a maximum depth of 57.3 meters
Ox-Bel-Ha has 142 different cenotes.
The second longest flooded cave system is called Sistema Sac-Actun (meaning White Cave). It has a total length of 252 kilometers, a maximum dive depth of 101 meters and has 187 different access points.
Koox Baal is the third longest, with a length of 87 kilometers, a maximum depth of 26.2 meters and 53 different cenotes.
We’d love to take you, as trained cave divers, beyond the cavern areas and show you the magnificent beauty of our caves.
The daily schedule is as follows:
We start at 8:00 AM with a big breakfast and a thorough dive briefing during which we plan our dive based on the maps provided by DeepDiveMexico.
Afterwards we drive through the jungle to the cenote where we carefully prepare our equipment and check it thoroughly. Once in the water, we follow standard procedures and we thoroughly go over the dive plan again.
Cave dives are always made following the rule of thirds and this determines our dive time. Dives with additional stages also can be carried out. These dives require even more detailed gas planning.
