Cenote Chac Mool :
Level: Beginner
Depth: max 12.5 meters
Temperature: constantly 26°C
Cenote Chac Mool is named for one of the most commonly found statues in the area between Mexico City and Guatemala. Translated from Yucatec Maya, it means something like “big red jaguar”. Most of the time, the statue has been used as an altar to send offerings to the rain god, Chaac.
Right after Puerto Aventuras, we enter the park entrance and arrive at the parking lot next to the cenote. On site are showers, toilets, dressing rooms and a small restaurant to have a snack and some beverages.

Just a few steps from the parking lot, we enter cenote Little Brother where our dive starts. By passing through a short tunnel, we reach Chac Mool. In addition to the nice light effects in Chac Mool, there is also a halocline where fresh and salt water meet. Inside the air dome, we can surface to have a look at the small stalactites that are growing from the ceiling.
