The Cenote Tak Be Luum :
Level: Advanced
Depth: max 8.5 meters
Temperature: constantly 26°C
Cenote Tak Be Luum is located inside the Dos Ojos park and can be reached
from Playa del Carmen in more or less 45 minutes by car. The new road that was built makes it now more comfortable to reach the cenote and there is a spacious parking area. There are tables to prepare our equipment and from there it’s only a short way to enter the water.
From a large and well-built platform in the dry area of the cavern, we enter the shallow water of the cenote. The guideline installed in the cavern area leads us in a circle almost all the way around the open water area. During the dive we often cross open water which makes it comfortable as we are always very close to the surface.
Tak Be Luum is famous for its unique formations which can be found only at this dive site. It looks as though the cavern was formed with plastic and then someone put a fire to it. Nobody really knows how these bubble-shaped formations came to grow this way over time.
During the dive, we reach a maximum depth of 8.5 meters while the average depth is about 4 to 6 meters. Because a lot of organic material, such as leaves, branches, etc., falls into the cenote, there is more than enough food for the rare blind fish. Especially in this cenote, blind fish can be seen on almost all dives.
