PADI or SDI Rescue Diver

The Rescue Diver Course

The PADI or SDI Rescue Diver Course will enhance your ability to identify problems promptly and to act appropriately during stressful situations. This prevents a minor emergency from developing into a serious danger.
The focus is primarily on preventing and properly managing dangerous situations, as well as self-rescue techniques. All of this helps you better handle typical diving problems, increases your confidence in your diving knowledge, and makes you a better and more cautious dive buddy.

PADI vs. SDI Rescue

We offer both organizations:
For the PADI Rescue Diver Course, you must already be an Advanced Open Water Diver and have completed a valid EFR Course.

For the SDI Rescue Diver Course, an Open Water Diver certification is sufficient – which means you can start much earlier. First aid knowledge is integrated if needed.

In both cases, the e-learning of the respective organization must be completed in advance and ideally from home.

Day 1 - Theory and Pool

To start, you will delve into important topics in a theory session such as stress recognition, emergency management, and self-protection.

Afterward, we head to the pool, where we practice rescue techniques hands-on – from managing panicked divers to rescuing unconscious divers.

All in a calm atmosphere and without pressure
– so you gain confidence and routine.

Children aged 10 to 14 can obtain the Junior Rescue Diver certification.

Days 2 and 3 of the Rescue Diver Course

On the second and third days of the Rescue Diver Course in Playa del Carmen, the focus is on practical exercises. You will go into the water for two dives each day, where you will learn step-by-step to master real emergency situations confidently.

On the second day of the course, you will first practice fundamental rescue techniques: managing a panicked diver at the surface, safe towing, and assisting exhausted divers. Later, underwater search patterns will follow, with which you can quickly and systematically find a ‘missing’ diver. The controlled ascent of an unconscious diver to the surface, as well as the subsequent management at the surface, are also practiced intensively. After each session, there will be feedback so you can continuously improve your procedures.

The third day of the course builds upon this and brings all skills together under real conditions. Here you will take over the planning and execution within your team, react to emergencies, and learn to remain calm despite stress. In the last two dives, a complete Rescue Number 7 scenario will be simulated – from locating the injured diver, to the ascent, to surface resuscitation and equipment removal. These exercises prepare you to react correctly in an emergency!
