What Do We Offer?
The Yucatán Peninsula and Diving in Playa Del Carmen
In the east of the Yucatán Peninsula lies the Mexican Caribbean,
better known as the Riviera Maya.
A rich offering of culture, ruins, culinary specialties from the Mayan tradition, and of course, diving in Playa del Carmen, will delight our guests.
Diving in Playa Del Carmen is for Everyone!
Diving in Playa del Carmen is suitable all year round due to warm temperatures and consistently good visibility, making it perfect for everyone. From beginners to experienced sport divers, there’s something for everyone here.
The coast off Playa del Carmen offers various fringing reefs. An elongated fringing reef at 10-12 m depth is home to a lot of Caribbean life. You can find large schools of yellow-striped grunts, many pufferfish, Caribbean lobsters, large stingrays, lots of turtles and much, much more.
Those with a keen eye can even spot a seahorse or two in the gentle current. During the winter months (November to February), there’s also a chance for our divers already certified as AOWD to see the bull sharks.
Besides bull sharks, giant moray eels, crabs, and eagle rays, there’s often the opportunity in the winter months to encounter sailfish or even dolphins in the deeper waters.
The underwater topography extends from the shallower reefs across a wide sandy area further out, until we reach the next deeper reefs at a depth of 20 to 23 meters.
In this part of the underwater landscape, there is a barrier reef in sections, which in parts reaches a height of up to 10 meters.
With a usually moderate current and a maximum diving depth of 30 meters, these dives are more suitable for experienced divers or for those who want to gain their first experience in deep and drift diving.
As 5-star dive center in Playa del Carmen, it is extremely important to us to tailor the day to your wishes. Therefore, we guarantee, also for your safety, that you will never dive in a group larger than 4 divers + guide.

Diving in Mexico’s Cenotes
A journey through time into Yucatán’s history.
Mexico is world-renowned for its breathtaking cenotes – natural limestone sinkholes formed by collapsed cave ceilings, offering access to a vast underground river system. Especially on the Yucatán Peninsula around Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Valladolid, cenote diving is an absolute highlight for certified divers.
What makes cenote diving so special is the incredible visibility – often over 100 meters – as well as the interplay of light rays and crystal-clear water amidst fascinating rock formations, stalactites, and stalagmites. Some cenotes lead deep into spectacular cave systems, while others offer open areas with impressive light shows, such as the famous cenotes “Dos Ojos”, “The Pit”, or “Chac Mool”.
Compared to ocean diving, cenote diving is calm, magical, and almost mystical. There’s hardly any current, no waves – just silence, rocks, water, and light. The dives take place under the guidance of experienced full-cave guides, who ensure safety and orientation in these unique systems.
For many divers, a cenote dive is among the most impressive experiences of their diving career.
Anyone diving in Mexico should definitely not miss this natural wonder!
Cenote Diving without Special Training
Of course, you can also dive deep into the caves in Mexico’s cenotes, but for these challenging dives, you need a special “Full-Cave” diving certification.
With DeepDiveMexico, as a top rated dive center, we offer you a unique opportunity to explore the most beautiful parts of the cenotes even without special training.
All you need for this is a basic diving certification, such as the OWD or CMAS*, and good buoyancy control.
For our less experienced divers, we offer the diving specialty Perfect Buoyancy for free.
You only pay us the certification costs of the respective diving organization.
When cavern diving in and around Playa del Carmen, we primarily explore the spectacular entrance areas of the cenotes. The rule here is that you must never be further than 60 m from the nearest water surface, and daylight must always remain visible.
Our cenote guides are all specially trained cave guides with thousands of dives, and in addition to a truly detailed briefing, we also provide you with the history of their formation.
In Mexico, there are the 3 longest flooded cave systems in the world with their countless cenotes, and with us as your dive center in Playa del Carmen, there’s a lot to explore.
Cave Diving with Cave Diving Certification
Experience the fascinating world of cave diving in the cenotes of the Riviera Maya with DeepDiveMexico!
Our experienced guides will safely lead you through a globally unique cave system with crystal-clear water, spectacular light shows, and impressive rock formations. Visibility in the cenotes is often over 100 meters – a feeling like floating in the air.
Our tours are aimed at certified divers who want to experience something extraordinary. In small groups, we show you carefully selected dive sites – from open cavern systems with daylight to mystical passages deep within the rock. We place the highest value on safety, individual care, and respect for the sensitive underwater world.
DeepDiveMexico combines professional guiding with a true passion for diving. We take our time for you – during the briefing, when gearing up, and of course, during the dive itself.
Whether you’re looking for your first cavern experience or as an experienced tech diver, you want to go deeper into the cave:
We’ll find the right tour for your experience level.
Dive with us into a world of silence, light, and millennia-old formations.
Cave diving with DeepDiveMexico is more than just a dive. It’s an unforgettable experience.
Diving in Cozumel
The Process
We start at 7:30 AM with pickup in Playa del Carmen. After about a 10-minute drive, we reach the port of Playa, from where the speedboat takes us directly to Cozumel.
The travel time to the island’s reefs is approximately 35-45 minutes, which is considerably faster and more comfortable than traveling by ferry.
We’ll do the first dive with you at one of the island’s phenomenal drop-offs.
After all, that’s what it’s known for.
After the first dive, light refreshments will be served on the boat. Usually, there are build-your-own sandwiches, fruits, and muffins for dessert. The second dive will be conducted at one of the inner reefs. Here, usually with moderate currents, we can encounter large schools of jackfish, eagle rays, or nurse sharks.
Since Cozumel is a National Park, its nature is untouched by fishing, and this is easily noticeable in the size of the marine life.
Cozumel, a Pearl of the Caribbean
Cozumel is Mexico’s third-largest island, and diving in Cozumel is considered among the best in the Mexican Caribbean, perhaps even the entire world.
Cozumel is located directly off the Yucatán Peninsula and can be reached by ferry or directly from Playa del Carmen by speedboat.
For the ferry crossing, there are 3 different companies, and they alternate every 30 minutes.
The entire northwest coast is a Marine National Park and home to the world’s second-largest barrier reef, which is why fishing, for example, is not permitted.
With a dive-friendly climate year-round, Cozumel is one of the most beautiful and yet hidden diving wonders of the world.
The world-renowned Colombia and Palancar reefs form a ring around Cozumel’s southern tip.
Otherwise, diving in Cozumel is also known for its fascinating drop-offs and drift dives.

PRO DIVE COURSES
DeepDiveMexico
Dive Courses in Playa Del Carmen
The most popular courses at our dive center are the Open Water Diver and the Advanced Open Water Diver course.
With PADI as well as SDI/TDI, you have the option to start your theoretical training immediately. The course material for both organizations is available as a book or an online version and must be studied before the course begins.
The Open Water Diver is the basic diving certification, the introduction to diving. The OWD certification includes both a theoretical and a practical training component. A written exam takes place at the end.
The time we recommend for the diving certification is three days, as in addition to theory, training in our in-house pool and a total of four open water dives must be completed.
The advanced diving certification is the Advanced Open Water Diver course. Here, diving experience is primarily gained by completing individual specialty dives.
These can include, for example, deep diving, wreck diving, drift diving, night diving, navigation, buoyancy, etc.
Perhaps you’re also interested in more equipment and technical skills. With our technical dive courses from PADI and TDI, we offer world-class dive training.
Courses We Personally Recommend:
AOWD or Advanced Scuba Diver Certification from SDI or PADI
It’s a must after the Open Water Diver course, as it allows you to dive to a maximum depth of 30 m.
Nitrox Course According to TDI or PADI
This course will enable you to use breathing gases with up to 40% oxygen.
Deep Diver Certification According to PADI or SDI
It certifies you to dive safely to a depth of 40 m.
Rescue or Stress Diver Certification
A dive course with a high fun factor, which also teaches all important elements of stress prevention in diving.
For the certification, you need a first aid certificate with oxygen administration authorization, which should not be older than two years.
This can, of course, also be done with us.
Perfect Buoyancy
To avoid harming the sensitive underwater world, you should be able to do one thing above all – perfectly control your buoyancy. We’re happy to help you with that!
Diving with Bull Sharks in Mexico
Season from November to mid-March!
The habitat of bull sharks is continuously shrinking here in Mexico and throughout the rest of the world due to the steadily growing human population.
Therefore, we want the encounter with these animals to be as natural as possible. We meet either at 7:45 AM or 11:30 AM, and after a truly extensive briefing on how to behave around the animals, we head out on the boat.
After a short ride, we arrive at the designated “BullShark Point”, a large sandy area with a gently sloping depth of 14-45 meters.
The perfect diving depth is 22-25 meters, as this is where pregnant female bull sharks feel most comfortable. To protect the animals and preserve their natural behavior, we do not conduct feedings.
Due to the given water depth, the AOWD is a prerequisite to participate in this breathtaking dive with the bull sharks.
In addition, to maximize your dive time, we recommend using Nitrox.
By the way, Nitrox is free for our Nitrox-certified guests!
So? Don’t miss out on this adventure!
Swimming with Whale Sharks
Season from May to September!
The whale shark is the largest fish in the world and can only be spotted in a few places on our planet. That’s precisely why the Yucatán Peninsula seems to be the best place worldwide to snorkel with whale sharks.
The best time of year is from early June to late September. The Caribbean water is warmest then, and we can observe what is probably the largest population of whale sharks worldwide.
Whale sharks are mysterious and usually solitary animals that follow the plankton currents of our Earth. However, here, massive aggregations of up to 300 animals are possible.
The whale shark excursion is perfectly suited for the entire family and an absolute highlight.
Excursions & Day Trips in Mexico
Day Tours on the Yucatán Peninsula
Excursions Mexico stands for special experiences on the Riviera Maya –
personal, in your language, and away from mass tourism.
We offer high-quality, sustainable excursions in small groups or as private tours. Our Multi Language speaking guides have lived in Mexico for years and passionately share their knowledge about the country, its people, and nature.
Our tours take you to the highlights of Yucatán: from famous Mayan ruins like Tulum or Cobá, to turquoise cenotes, and encounters with sea turtles, manatees, or – in season – even whale sharks. We ensure a respectful approach to nature and animals and therefore only work with partners who are equally committed to environmental and animal protection.
We work closely with the locals. We help small Mayan villages and local cooperatives establish fair tourism and offer you genuine insights into Mexican culture.
Excursions Mexico is more than just a tour operator –
we are hosts with heart and show you Mexico the way we love it.
