Diving in Playa del Carmen at Chunzumbul Reef
Chunzumbul Reef is the longest as well one of the flattest reefs in Playa del Carmen. As with almost all of the reefs in the area, you dive it from south to north.
The largest part of the reef is as wide as the eye can see, overgrown with large purple gorgonians. Along the edge of the reef you will find large sections with hard corals and larger brain corals.
These provide shelter for marine life such as crabs, lobsters and moray eels.
The highlights of this reef are two large overhangs that are located approximately in the middle and at the end of the reef.
At the overhangs, you see schools of various species of grunts, red lionfish and often large pufferfish. With a maximum depth of 11.5 meters and an average depth of 7-9 meters, you can make full use of your tank here and often have extensive dives of an hour.
