The Pared Verde Reef
The name of this reef translates to “green wall” and can be reached by boat from the port in Playa del Carmen in about 15-20 minutes.
Due to the maximum diving depth of approx. 30.5 meters, this dive site is reserved for divers who hold the Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Here, we descend through the blue water to a depth of 25 meters, where we can first admire the reef top of this typical fringing reef, before slowly following this approximately 5-6 meter high wall downwards.
Due to the moderate current, you can frequently see turtles, eagle rays, or even bull sharks during the winter months. Large brown basket sponges and many overhangs offer shelter for king crabs, moray eels, or lobsters.
Diving here is done from south to north, and with some skill in multilevel diving and good air consumption, this dive can sometimes last 50 – 60 minutes.
