Diving in Playa del Carmen at Moc-Che Shallow
Moc-Che Reef is the northernmost of the shallow house reefs that lie just off Playa del Carmen. With a boat trip of less than 10 minutes, this dive site is easy to reach.
At the beginning of the reef, we anchor and enter the water. Moc-Che usually has a mild to moderate current.
At the beginning of the dive, the reef starts at a depth of 7-9 meters. Following the edge of the reef, you can often find lobsters, spotted morays, arrow crabs and shrimp which hide under numerous rocks and in crevices. As you continue north, you´ll notice that the reef builds up and reaches a height of about 3 meters. In the small caves you will always discover green giant moray eels or crabs. In addition to many fish, Moc-Che houses a large coral garden consisting of hard and soft corals and sponges, as well you can encounter Turtles here.
After about 30 to 40 minutes, you reach an arch through which you can also dive. Filled with a shoal of blue striped grunts, the arch offers a great view. At this point you´re at 12.5 meters, the maximum depth of the dive. After the arch, the reef continues north and you can dive comfortably into shallower water.
