Dive Site: Cenote Tak be Luum
Level: Advanced
Depth: 8.5 meters max.
Cenote Tak be Luum
Cenote Tak Be Luum is located in the Dos Ojos park and can be reached from Playa del Carmen towards Tulum in about a 45-minute drive. The newly built road through the jungle makes access easier, and there’s plenty of parking space. Tables for setting up equipment are also available. From the parking lot, it’s just a few steps to the water entry.
Shallow Water Diving
A large and well-constructed platform in the dry area of the grotto leads to the shallow water of the cenote, from where the dive begins. The dive takes us on a wide circular route completely around the open water of the cenote. The guide line occasionally crosses the open water, which makes the dive very comfortable as you are always close to the surface.
Bubble-shaped Formations
Tak Be Luum is known for its formations, which are unique in their shape and appearance. It looks as if the grotto was molded from plastic and then exposed to a huge fire. Nobody knows where these bubble-shaped formations come from.
Maximum Depth
On our dive here, we reach a maximum depth of 8.5 meters; however, the average depth is between 4 and 6 meters. Due to the proximity to the surface and the amount of organic material (leaves, branches, etc.), it provides enough food for the very rare blind fish, which can be spotted here on almost every dive.
