Dive Site: Cenote Zapote
Cenote Zapote, named after the Sapote trees growing in its immediate vicinity, is located 20 km west of Puerto Morelos on the “Ruta de los Cenotes”.
Adventurous Track
This old road connects Puerto Morelos with Valladolid. From the highway exit, a truly adventurous track leads for about 5 km through the jungle. The ecopark, named after the cenote, offers a small parking lot right by the water and comfortable rigging tables for your equipment.
Despite the distance traveled into the jungle, here you’ll find comfortable showers and probably the most beautiful and largest restrooms in Mexico.
Three Cenotes
This park includes a total of three cenotes: Cenote Zapote, HolBox, and Kin Ha. All of these can be visited by experienced divers.
Zapote is a sinkhole that features an hourglass topography. The upper section has a diameter of approximately 30m, where numerous water lilies grow, which seem particularly attractive for photographers.
Cenote “Hells Bells”
The light appears green, and the sulfur sulfate layer, produced by harmless bacteria, makes us believe we are on another planet. Hence the name Cenote “Hells Bells”.
