Cenote Eden / Ponderosa
This cenote is also known by the name of the underlying cave system “Ponderosa” and is located approximately 25 minutes south of Playa del Carmen. An approximately 2 km long gravel road leads almost directly to the water. The large open water area with a water temperature of 26°C and plenty of fish such as guppies, swordtails, South American cichlids, and sometimes even baby turtles makes the cenote a popular destination for snorkelers and swimmers.
The maximum depth of the open area is only reachable in some places and is just under 5 meters. Many cozy palapas invite you here for a short break.
Dive
The dive starts under the karst window which we can see in the picture above. Following the guide line, we dive here all the way to Cenote Coral, which surprises us, especially during midday hours, with a gigantic curtain of light rays. As in Cenotes Chac Mool and Tajma Ha, a halocline also exists here, separating fresh and saltwater. The maximum depth here is 15.5m.
