Casa Cenote / Cenote Manati :
Level: Beginner
Depth: max 7 meters
Temperature: constantly 26°C
Casa Cenote is also known by the name Cenote Manati. It is said that manatees used to live in the cenote. The cenote is separated from the sea by the beach and a tunnel of about 50 meters connects them. The cenote is found in the middle of mangroves and is more like a river than a typical cenote. While diving or snorkeling, we get a perfect idea of the diversity of flora and fauna found on the Caribbean coastline of Mexico.
From Playa del Carmen, the cenote is about 55 kilometers away on Highway 307 in the direction of Tulum. From the highway, it takes us about 5 minutes to get to the cenote. Because most visitors to Casa Cenote are from neighboring hotels, there are almost no facilities on site. From the parking lot, it takes us only a few steps to enter the water.
Our dive starts in a big open area and then leads us farther and farther into the mangroves. The first part of the dive is always in an open water area in between the roots of the mangroves. At one point, further into the dive, we reach the entrance to the cavern area where we enter. The cavern line leads us close to the surface all the way to where the open area ends. It is totally worth it to surface and enjoy the silence and the beauty of the mangroves. With an average depth of 4 meters, the dive time is around
one hour.
