Cenote El Eden :
Level: Beginner to Advanced
Depth: max 15 meters
Temperature: constantly 26°C
Cenote el Eden is also known by the name Ponderosa which is the name of the cave system of which it is a part. It’s located about 25 minutes south of Playa del Carmen by car. A dirt road of more or less 2 kilometers leads us directly to the water in this beautiful jungle spot. It offers a huge open water area with a lot of aquatic life so it is also a very popular destination for snorkelers and other visitors. The maximum depth in the open water area is about 5 meters which we rarely reach. All around the cenote there are many palapas which invite us to have a nice break in-between the dives.
In Cenote el Eden, the dive starts underneath a big karst window in the wall which we can see in the picture above. We dive through a huge tunnel all the way to Cenote Coral, following the guideline at all times. During midday, Cenote Coral welcomes us with a huge curtain of light beams. Just like in Chac Mool and in Tajma Ha, there is a halocline which separates salt and fresh water. The maximum depth of this cenote is 15.5 meters.
