Dive Site: Cenote Dos Ojos
Level: Beginner
Depth: 8.5 meters max.
The Cenote Dos Ojos
The entrance to this popular cenote is located approximately 48km south of Playa del Carmen. The approximately 4km long gravel road then leads us to the dive site. Showers, toilets, and comfortable gear-up tables make the whole area seem commercial yet cozy. There is also a small restaurant on site. The cave system located beneath this cenote has a total length of approximately 82km. However, as cavern divers, we always stay within the daylight zone and never further than 60m from the next exit. The cenote owes its name Dos Ojos (Two Eyes) to its two large eye-shaped sinkholes directly next to each other.
The system also includes the cenotes “El Pit” and Cenote Dos Palmas, where probably the oldest woman of Central & South America was found.
Barbie Line
The dive known as the Barbie Line is ideal as the first dive of the day. With a maximum depth of 6.5m and no current, we move almost permanently directly next to a water surface and can observe beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.
Second Dive
The second dive is a bit darker than the first, as it is directed west and thus relatively less light shines in. Despite the feeling of being in the middle of a cave, we have a maximum distance of approximately 20m to the next water surface. The maximum dive depth here is 8.5m.
