Chac Mool Cenote
The entrance, situated about 23 km south of Playa del Carmen and immediately after Puerto Aventuras, leads us to the parking lot where the equipment is set up. Adjacent to it are restrooms, changing rooms, showers, and a small restaurant, perfect for a snack or drink after your cave dive.
Halocline
The dive starts in Cenote Little Brother, located just a few steps from the parking lot. A short tunnel leads to Cenote Chac Mool. Besides the stunning light penetration in the cenote, the dive also features a halocline where fresh and saltwater separate, and an air pocket where you can surface and leisurely observe the formation of stalactites.
Rain God Chaac
This cenote was named after one of the most common stone figures found in the region stretching from Mexico City to Guatemala. In the Maya language, the name means ‘red’ or ‘great Jaguar‘. The figure was primarily used as an altar for offerings to the rain god Chaac.
